Can anything escape fatal holes ? This question has been disturbing physicists for at least four decades , and while we do n’t have an answer yet , we might have just retrieve some of import cue .
Stephen Hawking , Malcolm J. Perry , and Andrew Strominger have suggested that information can indeed get away . They propose that black holes are surrounded by vacuum energy DoS that can " memorialize " the charge of particles coming into the black holes , so the information is never lost .
If this approach , presented in a theme issue inPhysical Reviews Letters , can be repeated for gravity , the scientist might have found a fashion to solve the information paradox , which has plagued black hole inquiry since Hawking ’s seminal work in 1975 .
According to the law of physics , it should always be potential to reconstruct the past of any interaction . A mug falling from a table , a lightning bang , or a galaxy collision can always be imagined back . But this is not the showcase for black holes .
Hawking showed that a sinister hole is not really black because the interactions between its surface and space - time can create particles that rob the black holes of energy . This Energy Department , dubbed " hawk actinotherapy , " will cause the black kettle of fish to miss pot and eventually vaporise . So particles seem in the universe without a past , and some particles ( the infalling fabric ) disappear from the universe without a future tense . And quantum mechanics really does n’t wish that .
The other government issue comes from Einstein’s theory of relativity . grant to Einstein ’s hypothesis , a static black maw can be described by three parameters alone : its mass , its galvanic charge , and its angular impulse . Physicist John Wheeler popularized the phrase " black holes have no pilus , " mean all theinformationthat falls into a sinister hole is lost .
Now , the solvent nominate by Hawking and his colleagues suggests that there are hairs . They are soft quantum hairs , photons that have fundamentally zero energy trapped on the control surface of black hole . When a particle is eaten by a black hole , it excites these photons . This does n’t change the general property of the bleak hole , but as it evaporate that info is released back into the universe .
A great deal of work is still necessary on this melodic theme to truly solve the information job ; it is not clear if all selective information can be transfer to this soft whisker , but maybe we are on the correct running .
