When asked about the photo taken with Cavalcante, which has sparked controversy, Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters at aWednesday press conferencethat he took no issue with it.
Bivens added, “Again, they’re proud of their work, they kept the community safe, I say thanks to them and good job.”

In the video, the officers, wearing camouflage tactical gear and two police dogs flank Cavalcante, who appears to be wearing a green Philadelphia Eagles hoodie and dark pants.

Cavalcante, 34, was convicted of stabbing his girlfriend to death in July, and is also wanted for a murder in his native Brazil.

Before he was captured, Cavalcante stole a rifle, according to local authorities, and was considered “armed.”

At Wednesday’s press conference, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said the fugitive was captured without any shots being fired.
Prior to stealing the gun, Cavalcante had already been considered dangerous, with Bivens warning residents in the area to lock all doors.
After being taken into custody Wednesday, Bivens said Cavalcante will be transferred to a state correctional facility.
