So Steven Spielberg is making a movie all about WAR HORSES . It does n’t really have the same ring as WAR weenie , but whatever , I ’ll entertain the idea . However , you ca n’t really shoot horses getting beat up and not anticipate a public garboil . Sohow’d they do it ? Puppeteers .
According to Wired UK , the effects squad for War Horse avoided fluid mechanics because of a higher danger for failure ( these takes are expensive ! ) , so rather they choose to build a tool box below the imitation horse to control its limbs , and grant the synthetical equine an animatronic headspring .

Underneath the horse puppet was a box in which four puppeteer could sit and manipulate the brute ’s body and principal , create movements include external respiration . “ A household kettle was also installed in the box seat that had tubes running between it and the nostril to give the illusion of condensed breath , ” Parish lend .
The head part of the creature was radio hold and contained 25 servo motors to operate the eyes , lid , ears , brow , lips , nostrils and jaw . The head alone took three puppeteers to check – one to operate the eyes , one for the back talk and one for the ear . This team did n’t have to get up into the buried boxful , but were above ground , capable to observe their handwork .
And as impressive as I ’m certain this will expect on television camera , the psychometric test shots are nothing short of creepy . [ Wired UK ]
