Iron Man 2 has over half an hour of deleted scenes , according to manager Jon Favreau — including some hooey that caused life-threatening negative reaction at an early test screening . Here ’s our everlasting listing of what was cut , and why .
Probably the most glaring omission from the concluding cut of Iron Man 2 is Tony ’s moment where he tells Pepper “ You dispatch me , ” before he hop out of a sheet and onto a phase . This is one of the neat present moment in the movie ’s poke , so why was it left out of the film ?
Favreau tellsMTVthe conniption mess up up the flow of the original intro . Sad . We really liked that vista , well we liked it a plenty more than the “ two seal wrestling over a grape ” quip . But do n’t worry — it ’s on the DVD .
One affair that wo n’t be on the videodisk : the full Scarlett Johansson crotch shoot from the dawdler . Why ? Because you could see the stunt char in it , clear as daytime . That vista was edited down to a great extent , thus minimizing the awing power of the crotch fire .
During the Senate earreach early on , there was a zinger between Tony and Justin Hammer , which got left out of the last undercut , but it ’s inAlexander Irvine ’s novelizationof the screenplay , as read by 4th Letter . During the Senate auditory sense , Hammer says he does n’t know if Tony is a brand or a shield . In the original book , Tony responds , “ I do n’t recognize if I ’m a sword or a shield , but I do know that Hammer is a dick . ” BA - ZING . It is a pretty good stemma , but we can see how it would have taken the scene just a small too far towards humor .
In fact there might have been a whole lot more wanting Scarjo scenes . recall this iconic word picture that popped up everywhere ? It was nowhere to be see in the net stinger . Why?Johansson has no idea , but Favreau toldMTVthat :
“ That one ’s an interesting one , because the relationship between Tony and Pepper is so limited to the interview that it ’s [ delicate ] , ” Favreau said of get to Johansson ’s sensual character appear to be too close to Tony . “ If you let him and Scarlett get too flirty and get too close , the audience turns off really quickly , because they really desire to settle for [ Tony and Pepper ] together . ”

When well-chosen drives Pepper to the racetrack , they ’re shot at by guard , which makes you wonder why nobody ’s shooting at Whiplash . In the movie , there ’s that brief part where Happy note that the key to the briefcase armor is in his pocket . In the book , Pepper fish in his air pocket for the key and amongst all the panic , Happy concede that he ’s always loved her . Suddenly things get very awkward and he admits that he probably should n’t have pronounce that while she had her hand in his pants .
And finally we all retrieve the great terror of 2010 when it was revealed that Olivia Munn was in Iron Man 2 ? The rumor - mongers went wild , with people suggesting she was the young Wasp . Which is just mad talk , people . Her original part was scrapped and they re - shot a raw scene with Munn , as a celebrity amusement newsperson . It was ok . But what was her original role ?
“ She did a very laughable comedic take on a girl that [ Tony ] was with at his birthday company , ” he explained . “ She crop up up again later in his chamber . But the way the conniption go down , that part of the movie did n’t want to have comedy because it was starting to get a little snatch serious and bump tonally . … As a tantrum it was majuscule , but when we put the whole motion picture together , that ’s one of the things that happens . It ’s happened to me many times as an player , but we called her up and said , ‘ There ’s another matter that we ’re burgeon forth now , we ’d love to have you in the film . ’ ”
