During Monday’s episode of theTodayshow, the two co-hosts spoke with guestMindy Kalingabout what they were like during their high school years. After the trio noted what “huge” nerds they were at the time, Guthrie, 51, raised her hand and said: “Didn’t go to prom!”
Kotb, 59, then raised her hand, making the same declaration. The pair’s revelation stunned Kaling, who noted she “did go to prom” twice.
“Wait, did you get asked or did you ask him?” Kotb said. “Because I only got a date when I asked. That’s why I’m asking.”
Guthrie chimed in, “Me too!”
This isn’t the first time Kotb and Guthrie have mentioned their absence from prom. Ona previousTodayshow episodeairing in 2020, fellow co-hostAl Rokerasked his colleagues if they had any special memories from their time at prom.
Craig Melvinremembered staying out “later” than he was “supposed to,” making his mom “none too happy.” But Roker, 69, admitted he didn’t go because he “couldn’t get a date.”
“Sad but, I’m over it,” Roker added.
“I didn’t go to mine either, Al,” Kotb said. “I know. I didn’t!”
