Researchers at Dartmouth have analyzed over 180 million tweets from 900,000 user in the United States — and they ’ve add up up with a leaning of the young abridge words that circularize on Twitter .
But , hey , 140 persona , that ’s not so many . Maybe we ’re just shortening our words to ward off hitting our part limit ? Not so much , NPR ’s All Tech Consideredreports . The ordinary tweet using reduce words comes in at just under 90 reference . And , while the line of some Holy Scripture are pretty obvi , some are much less so :
When searching for the East Coast equivalent weight of the word “ hella ” ( you know , “ a lot ” ) , which likely stems from “ helluva ” or “ hellacious ” and is affiliate with the West Coast , Reddy says her team bear to see appearances of “ repellent ” or “ insane . ” Instead , they found the set phrase “ od ” or “ odee ” used in the same manner . “ Just like you ’d say , ‘ Oh , it ’s hella great , people would say , ‘ It ’s odee neat , ’ ” Reddy explains .

She think “ OD ” or “ odee ” might be a shortened form of “ overdose”;others thinkit might be a clipping of “ overdoing . ” lookup for “ odee ” on Twitter and you ’ll see these types of tweet : “ My chest pump this sunrise was Odee unbalanced ! Found this unexampled 30 minute workout … ” or “ My hairs getting odee long . ”
