Last night ’s Agents of SHIELD was mostly about moving all the piece of music into position for the 2d half of the season . And the factual “ case of the hebdomad ” was meh . But there were some brilliant moments , that remind us why this show has become such an essential part of the Marvel Universe .
Spoilers onward …
So “ bounce Back ” was another “ lay ducks in a run-in ” kind of installment , with a case of the week about a womanhood with limited superspeed powers ( she can only journey as far as she can get in one heartbeat , then she snap back to where she started . ) The tenacious - term stuff included Daisy working on her team of Secret Warriors , and touch of tensions between humans and Inhumans on the SHIELD team .
But there were still some great moments that prompt us why this show has grown on us . principal among them : the scene above , where Coulson admits he does n’t quite trust himself after he polish off Grant Ward on an alien planet , and he ’s not sure what hap to him . Melinda May ’s line say it all : “ You joined the Cavalry . ” Referring to the incident where Melinda had to commit a atrocious barbarity to save people , and gained the nickname she hate : The Cavalry . That setting afford me major goosebumps . But also …
Coulson is uncoerced to torture a comatose world — confessedly , a sociopathic Logos of a Nazi goliath — to get info on how to find Hydra ’s new loss leader , Gideon Malick . ( And the President of the United States himself say Malick is unprocurable , even after Coulson makes him digest over the bloodstain of Rosalind Price , whom Malick had killed . )
Fitz and Simmons finally let the cat out of the bag was enceinte — even though it ’s weird that Fitz charge himself for the expiry of Will . Will was suddenly long before Fitz got there , and Fitz ( almost ) killed a lusus naturae that was wear down Will ’s body . End of tale . But this is a great present moment — specifically the little clenched fist - bump at the end of the scene . That fist bulge locomote me just about 1000 clock time more than seeing Daisy and Lincoln kiss — Daisy and Lincoln are one of the most chemistry - costless pair on television system , and I ’m not just saying that as an unrepentantJastridshipper ( from Tomorrow mass , Lincoln ’s old show , where that actor play essentially the same role . )
Here ’s the opening of the instalment , where Agents of SHIELD joins the legion of display start flash - forwards . ( Off the top of my head : Arrow and Vampire Diaries have been leaning on this fairly hard . ) It ’s three months from now , and someone with a SHIELD uniform is bleeding on a space shuttle , just before it explode in space . The rood looks like a big clue — could this be Mack , who confesses in this episode that he ’s a spiritual man ? Or else Elena , the spiritual Inhuman whom we forgather in this episode ?
Ward is Hive ! And he “ create a believer ” out of the skeptical Inhuman , using some form of creepy-crawly baron . This is rifle to be insanely fun .
So this is the most important unexampled bit of position quo … Coulson is pass to have to work with Glenn Talbot , a total jerkface who ’s tried to crush Coulson several times in the past tense . Fun !
And finally … this was the beneficial part of the instalment ’s main storyline . Specifically , the agency the team coordinates all their top executive to take down this dude with the Medusa - visual modality powers . Mack tells them about the hombre ’s index , then Elena puts a cuff on him ( which is admittedly a forged idea ) . Then Joey use his power over metal to melt the guy ’s crank onto his face , and Daisy uses her quake powers to pink him out . gracious teamwork .
All recount , the main reason to watch Agents of SHIELD remains the theatrical role — and the little second involving Coulson and May , or Fitz and Simmons , are by far the dependable role of the show .
