That , at least , is what photographerMarc Simon Freihas done in this phenomenal series of photographs . Using an 1920s - era electrotherapy machine ( basically , a mini Tesla volute ) that he purchased on Ebay , Frei was able to return electric discharges and catch them using aNikon Df , a macro extension thermionic tube , and a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8 lens of the eye . No doubt the wire shoot put his equipment in danger , but the risk seems to have paid off .
My personal favorite is the last — a mini electric storm that uses teddy bear gut for clouds .
