You ’ve probably hear about synaesthesia , the glamourous neurological condition in which mass ’s senses get swapped so that they smell out color and feel words . Now a group of roboticists and bioengineers have got a working prototype of a slight car that give way you the synesthetic ability to palpate thing you see . This tiny equipment attaches to your fingertip , using a camera to translate ocular double into tactual sensation by activating a little vibrator attached to the sensitive face in your digit . So you flap your hands around and “ feel ” object across the street .
The creators of this twist , called the Fingersight , write :
Extending the mitt ’s innate ability , we mount miniature cameras on single fingertips , allow rapid sweeping through the 3D ocular environment at bang-up distance . The information harvest from each fingertip camera is fed back to that finger’s breadth by a small vibrator , so the mother wit of soupcon remain related to each finger ’s individual interaction with the environment . Metaphorically talk , we have collapse eyesight to the fingers , and thus we call the ensue capability , “ Fingersight . ”

They ’ve been working on this equipment and demoing it at group discussion for about a year . Ca n’t wait for the consumer interpretation . Whoa , man , I can FEEL the colors on that chair across the room . No really , I can .
