Frank Oz Says Disney Doesn’t Want Him to PerformThe MuppetsAnymore

It ’s difficult to measure just how unbelievable the calling of Frank Oz has been . On the one hand , he ’s a hugely successful film director : The Dark Crystal , Little Shop of Horrors , cheating Rotten Scoundrels , etc . For some that would be enough . But he also acts . And while some successful moving-picture show theatre director act , Oz is also one of the most famous puppeteer of all time , having worked with George Lucas on Star Wars andJim Henson on The Muppetsand Sesame Street from their earliest incarnations . Oz has the type of experience and talent you ’d imagine anyone would bend over backward to work with . But apparently , not everyone wants to solve with him .

In a fascinating , astray - ranging interview withthe Guardian , Oz admit that while he has n’t worked with The Muppets since 2007 , it has n’t exactly been by choice . “ I ’d love to do the Muppets again but Disney does n’t want me , and Sesame Street has n’t asked me for 10 years , ” Oz said . “ They do n’t want me because I wo n’t postdate orders and I wo n’t do the kind of Muppets they believe in . ”

Oz worked straight off with Jim Henson , who pass away in 1990 , on both properties , and call up dialogue to deal the Muppets to Disney wager a role in his passing . “ The Disney deal is credibly what killed Jim . It made him disgusted , ” Oz said . “ [ Then Disney CEO Michael ] Eisner was trying to get Sesame Street , too , which Jim would n’t allow . But Jim was not a dealer , he was an artist , and it was destroying him , it really was . ”

Though the sight did n’t happen at that time , Disney did end up buy the Muppets year after Henson ’s passing . cursorily , Oz hear a shift fromthe more seditious , kin favorable contenthe and Henson were doing versus what Disney was doing . “ [ There was a ] demarcation cable between the Jim Henson Muppets and the Disney Muppets , ” Oz say . “ There ’s an inability for bodied America to sympathise the value of something they corrupt . They never understood , with us , it ’s not just about the puppets , it ’s about the performing artist who roll in the hay each other and have work together for many years . ” ( Interesting side tone : Oz was not consultedon the persona of Grogu from The Mandalorian ) .

Oz has work with Disney in the past few geezerhood : he brought back Yoda forStar Wars : The Last Jedi , cater a voice for Pixar ’s Inside Out , directed Hulu special Derek DelGaudio ’s In & Of Itself , and more . But when it comes to The Muppets and Sesame Street , Oz ca n’t learn them anymore . “ The individual ’s not there . The soul is what make things grow and be mirthful . But I miss them and have sex them , ” he pronounce .
