More validation that today ’s generation of whippersnapper either have very bad memories or are well confused by Keanu Reeves comes in the form of Rankopedia ’s democratically - created list of the Best Sci - Fi film of All Time . I have no job with The Empire Strikes Back best Star Wars , or the surprise position of the awesome Children of Men . But as I spell this , the Best Sci - Fi Movie of All Time , as vote for by the corporate internet is , apparently The Matrix . Which is a travesty .
Now , I could merrily go on for roughly several years about how much the Matrix continuation betrayed the electric potential of the first moving-picture show by , well , not continuing to pull off Grant Morrison ’s The Invisibles comics like the first one did . But you all know that already .
rather , I just want to ask : Is everybody mad ? The Matrix was , even before the sequel and everyone getting bored with “ smoke - time , ” at best a reasonably entertaining moving-picture show with some utterly appalling acting — It ’s not just you , Keanu , Lawrence Fishburne was kind of calling it in as well — and dialogue that has made puppies hollo . I ’ve beat nothing against popcorn eyecandy ( I have a secret soft spot for the Transformers picture , I have to acknowledge ) , but how the hell is that motion-picture show gravely a contender for the full sci - fi motion picture ever ?
