Drew Scottwas excitedly anticipating his twin brotherJonathan Scott’s engagement.
TheProperty Brothersstar, 45, told PEOPLE he was “counting down the days” until Jonathan popped the question to fiancéeZooey Deschanel. “When’s it going to happen?” Drew recalled wondering ofthe proposal, which ultimately took place in August.
“We’re so happy. They’re so good together,” he continued while chatting to PEOPLE at the A Sense of Home Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Drew said he has also gotten a kick out of seeing his siblingstep into the role of stepdadto Deschanel’s two kids, daughter Elsie, 7, and son Charlie, 5, whom theNew Girlstar shares with ex-husbandJacob Pechenik.
“They’re so good together, and Jonathan, he became an insta dad with the kids. I think it’s really great to see a whole other side of him there, too.”

“I think it’s how much they care for each other — big things and the little things,” he told PEOPLE. “They treat each other well. They treat each other with respect and they truly are just loving with each other. And I’ve seen a lot of relationships in the past where you don’t get that, and you really see it with the two of them.”
As for his brother’s wedding and whether he plans to serve as the best man, Drew said “it’s up to” Jonathan. “We’ll see. I am the kind of guy that gives no pressure. If he wants to elope and do his own thing, go for it. Whatever they want, I’m good with.”

While Drew had a hunch his brother’s engagement was imminent, Deschanel, 43, recently told PEOPLE she was"clueless" that Jonathan was about to pop the question, even as the romantic proposal began unfolding.
The pair and her kids were visiting Edinburgh Castle in Scotland on the big day, and Jonathan had arranged that their group was the last at the historic site. A bagpipe band was performing on the grounds at the time, and the music suddenly changed — Deschanel’s first clue that something was afoot. “I was like, ‘I think something’s happening,' " she recalled.

When her kids pulled out a banner that said, ‘Zooey, will you marry me?’ " she was left in no doubt.
“And I said yes!” she declared.
In a funny twist, Deschanel’s kids thought their mom hadjumped straight into being marriedthat day. Knowing Elsie and Charlie might spoil the surprise if they knew what was really happening, Jonathan had kept most of the proposal details to himself.
Their big job was to hold up the banner, only they had no idea what was written on the front of it.
“When Elsie turned around and read [the sign], that was the first time she learned,” Scott told PEOPLE of the couple’s engagement. “And she immediately goes, ‘Huh, did you just get married?’ "
“And we’re like, ‘Well, no, not yet, but we got engaged,’ " he continued. “And she’s like, ‘Does that mean I get to be a flower girl?’ And we’re like, ‘Yes. Yes you can.’ So it was really sweet to have them there too.”
“So cute. It was so special,” Deschanel added.
