Devin Dawsonis raving about his new fiancée — and the swoon-worthy wayhe asked her to marry him.

On the red carpet at the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday night, the “All on Me” singer opened up about his proposal to Leah Sykes, telling PEOPLE that he “could go on forever” when it comes to how he popped the question.

“I grew up in Northern California. She’d never been to San Francisco so we went to San Francisco for the weekend,” Dawson says. “The long story short is, I took her around the whole city. I think she expected me to propose at this place, at Twin Peaks, at Ocean Beach and I didn’t do it until the very end.”

“We went up to a rooftop at Virgin Hotels,” he continues. “They let us have the whole rooftop to ourselves, and I got down on one knee and she just started bawling.”

Dawson previouslytold PEOPLEthat his proposal came on the day of the couple’s two-year anniversary.

“I’ve known for a while now that I wanted that to be the day I propose to her,” theDark Horsesinger said last month. “I wanted to set that day in stone so we could always remember how important March 10th is to us.”

While on the red carpet at the 2019 ACMs, Dawson and Sykes ran intoMichael RayandCarly Pearce, who also recentlygot engaged, and the four all posed for photos together.

Dawson, who opted for a black suit and a red tie for the night,tells PEOPLE that he chose his outfit to coordinate with his fiancée, who stunned in a red dress.

As for how he’s most grown, Dawson says that he’s become more religious since meeting Sykes.

“I never went to church growing up,” he says. “I’ve always been spiritual but not religious, and since I’ve met her I’ve been really enjoying going to church when I’m in town for it.”

The 54th Academy of Country Music Awards are broadcasting live from Las Vegas on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS.
