It ’s all a bit tidy , but the good news is , it ’s merriment to see , thanks to a typically terrifying performance from Seth Gabel as both Lincolns . Also great : Anna Torv bringing her common sparkle - with - jot - of - astuteness - beneath to Fauxlivia .
So basically , Lincoln is a rootless drifter , who does n’t know who he really is — just like Canaan . Neither of them made any material connection with other people , even before they got yank into the creation of shapeshifters and alternate universe of discourse . They each carry detail that emphasise their failed attempts at connection : Lincoln has his aboriginal American talisman thingy that his dead partner gave him , which symbolise traveling through liveliness ’s maze and find habitation . I also was somewhat at a loss when Lincoln decide to give the shapeshifting serial sea wolf his last cute memento of his utter mate .
As Canaan says at one stop , there are people who just move effortlessly through lifespan , and everybody commend them — but he ’s not one of those mass . Even before he became a human with no aspect , who has to keep transforming into a Modern person every day or two .
Lincoln , meanwhile , has a foil who actually does get to be someone that everyone remembers and connects to : alt - Lincoln , who ’s been with Fringe Division for seven year and has the full - on swagger extend on . I kind of love that the episode terminate with Lincoln apparently having learned nothing after all . Despite his huge speech to Canaan about not hold back around any longer for someone else to specify him or give him a home , he ’s still doing just that . He ’s just switched Olivias . And judging from the hurt , guarded bet behind Fauxlivia ’s smile when she welcome him , he ’s only going to get himself wound again . There ’s no universe in which Olivia will be Lincoln ’s invariant .
