Céline Dionis thanking her fans and family while bringing awareness to the autoimmune disease she’s been trying to “overcome” for more than a year.
“Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day,” the singer, 55,wrote on InstagramFriday. Dion included a photo posing withall three of her sons, René-Charles Angélil, 23, and 13-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
“As many of you know, in the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS),” she continued. “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!”
The announcement was also posted in French.
Dionwent public with her diagnosisback in December 2022. “I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she tearfully said in a video.
She was largely removed from the public eye until November 2023,when she attended a NHL hockey gamebetween the Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Dion hails from Charlemagne near Montreal andperformed in Vegas for many years.
Dion made a surprise and triumphant return to the musical stage at last month’s66th Grammy Awards, where shepresented the album of the year award to Taylor Swift.
