Whoooooa . That was my chemical reaction as I surfed from tile to tile inAmazon ’s WindowShop , which is the most eye - popping on-line shopping experience I ’ve ever seen . It ’s a collection of their most popular pic , books , medicine and other media coiffe in a huge 3D power grid , where every roofing tile is a tiny demonstration of the Cartesian product — a dawdler , snippet or clip — and it ’s incredibly fast and smoothen to flit from one to the other , with no meantime at all .
It sort of reminds me of Google Earth , but if the globe were made up of copies of Dexter and The Godfather . While the approximation is definitely still in its infancy — navigation is far from in - depth — hold back it out , it ’s an awe-inspiring , visually yummy experience that is all what on-line shopping is going to look like in the near futurity — and it ’s utterly suitable for a multitouch UI too . Update : As people have pointed out , it ’s verrry similarto Cooliris.[Amazon WindowshopviaTechCrunch ]
