In four billion long time , Andromeda will collide with the Milky Way . That will be an amazing view — but until then we have to depend at it from a distance . This young photograph by the European Space Agency ’s Herschel Space Observatory shows a beautiful view . From NASA :

The glow seen here make out from the longer - wavelength , or far , end of the infrared spectrum , giving uranologist the chance to name the very coldest detritus in our astronomical neighbour . These brightness wavelengths span from 250 to 500 microns , which are a one-quarter to one-half of a millimetre in size . Herschel ’s power to discover the light earmark astronomer to see clouds of detritus at temperatures of only a few tens of level above absolute zero . These cloud are dark and opaque at shorter wavelengths . The Herschel view also highlights spokes of detritus between the concentric halo .

I just can count at these blank image all day long . [ NASA ]
